Volunteer roles

With new buildings and an ambitious programme of work, there are many ways to support the gardens as a volunteer:

Gardening Volunteers

Highdown’s gardening volunteers are a friendly, informal group who work alongside Highdown’s Craft Gardeners on a variety of gentle garden maintenance tasks including: planting, weeding, pruning, watering and raking leaves.

Tasks suit most abilities and any spare time you have is well rewarded just by being in such a beautiful garden environment.

We are not currently recruiting for the Gardening Group. If you would like to be put on our waiting list, please contact us:

Highdown Tour Guides

Our Tour Guides lead families, local people and horticultural enthusiasts around Highdown, sharing stories about the gardens incredible history and unique plant collection.

With support and training from Highdown staff, volunteer Tour Guides are important in ensuring that Highdown’s rich heritage is passed on to future generations.

Highdown Visitor Assistants

Highdown is becoming a hub for community activities and events. We would also like assistance evaluating visitor experience.

We are looking for friendly and personable volunteers to help prepare and deliver both of these visitor facing activities. This role is a chance to engage with the local community and have some fun!
