Figment Arts is a grass roots, artist led organisation that works to offer high quality creative experiences to those who face barriers to accessing art. They raise awareness, amplify voices and highlight the importance of the arts and creativity for everyone.

Story Maps is their new project, made possible by money raised by National Lottery players. Story Maps will see them working in partnership with Worthing, Newhaven and Hastings museums with support from University of Chichester’s Centre for Folklore and Fairytales.

‘Draw a sound’ workshop:

Location: Through the gardens – meet at the Visitor Centre

Times: 12:15pm and 1:45pm

Creative Waves and Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra musicians are taking the children and their accompanying parents / carers on a walk through the gardens to observe sounds, colours and textures.

Draw a sound - reflection image (with padding)Each child is given a concertina sketchbook and encouraged to draw what they see or hear.

Artists Nadia and Nessy, alongside the musicians, guide the children, improvising sounds from their classical instruments. At the end of the session, the musicians will read the marks made onto the paper as graphic scores as a mini alfresco concert for all to enjoy.

Kids’ drama workshop:

Location: Performance area – meet at the Visitor Centre

Duration: 1h 30m
Times: 11am and 1pm
Cost: £5

Join local legend and theatre director Nick Young for an introduction to drama techniques through playful games in the Gardens performance area where his Rainbow Theatre troupe settles every year in July to bring us the classic Shakespeare plays.

This is ideal for 4 to 12 year olds.
No previous experience necessary.
