About the artists
Ian Wood (art tutor):
Trained at Falmouth School of Art
I particularly enjoy using colour with almost any style of painting and with many subjects, however local scenes and animals are my favourites. I tutor a range of mediums, including Acrylics, Gouache Watercolour and Water Soluble oils, all of which I use as my personal choice of medium. I have my home studio based in Middleton-on-Sea where I am happy to discuss private tuition should you be interested. Please enjoy our exhibition and look forward to meeting you in person.

Jan Wood:
I am a self taught local Artist and with a particular preference to painting animals and birds in a range of styles, particularly in bright colours but also in an atmospheric style. My preferred medium is watercolours, although I do mix other mediums. I have been drawing and painting from a young age and appreciate nature, wildlife and the countryside. I enjoy bringing out the fun and character in my chosen subjects. Every subject has its own character and it is important to capture in a painting. I take pet commissions and offer a range of sizes and prices to suit. I hope you enjoy the Highdown Exhibition where there will be original artwork, canvas prints, framed and unframed prints, and cards available to purchase.

Chris Clark:
Living by the beach and being a life-long dog owner, a tide clock is an essential element in a busy household. I have taken the basic concept and incorporated art to create a uniquely useful and beautiful clock within which the art changes as the tide rises and falls. An engineer by training but an artist at heart, I have created attractive pieces for the home from wood and metal all my life. I have designed and made my clocks from first principles. My beach huts clock has been made in collaboration with fellow exhibitor, Zena Wood. I have incorporated her artwork to create a clock which shows the sandy beach at low water, with the picture changing constantly as the tide rises and falls. At high water the sand has all but disappeared and a swimmer is seen making her way through the waves.
Zena Wood:
My paintings return, again and again, to landscapes as feeling rather than record. This collection moves between moods; the hush of turquoise shallows, the surge of a wave breaking under a working sky, the fire of a coastal sunset and the quiet of a woodland edge. Working in oils, in the Impressionist tradition, I paint the light and atmosphere of the South Coast and beyond, not exactly what I see but what I feel standing in it.
